Freshman Wins Essay Contest

Anthonya James is one of the winners of the “What I am Doing to Prepare for College “ essay contest, sponsored in conjunction with the DC College Tuition Savings Plan, Capital One, and the District of Columbia College Access Program.


Two winners were selected form each Ward in the District, each receiving $1,000 in scholarship money. Great job, Anthonya!

New Reports Highlight TMA’s Programs

Thurgood Marshall Academy has published new reports that detail two growing mission-specific programs for our students.

Funded through Fight For Children’s QSI Champion Award, a report on college counseling and alumni program details the impact of intensive one-on-one college advising. The program ensures the school’s mission is fulfilled: that all students succeed in college. Through the alumni program, TMA graduates have received individual support from the alumni program since 2006, ensuring that approximately 75% graduates remain in college. The report on the Advanced Placement program shows how Thurgood Marshall Academy has built a strong model for the courses that serves students in low-income and under-served students. AP courses are a central part in our mission to prepare students for the academic rigors of college.
