Executive Director Alexandra Pardo to Leave Thurgood Marshall Academy at the End of the 2014-15 School Year

Alexandra Pardo announced today that she will be leaving her position as Executive Director of Thurgood Marshall Academy Public Charter School on July 30, 2015, at the end of the 2014-2015 academic year. Thurgood Marshall Academy is ranked as one of the highest non-selective high school in the District of Columbia, and as one of the nation’s best-performing public charter high schools. Under Alexandra’s leadership, Thurgood Marshall Academy has graduated over 500 students, 100% of whom gained acceptance to college and 85% of whom graduated from or are still enrolled in college. Thurgood Marshall Academy alumni are graduating college at rates five times higher than their neighborhood peers, truly fulfilling the school’s mission and changing their communities. Across all college pathway metrics, Thurgood Marshall Academy students are outperforming national and local outcomes.

In reflecting on her time at the school, Alexandra says, “I have enjoyed working with our Board, faculty, staff, students, parents and our entire community to ensure that we are executing Thurgood Marshall Academy’s mission and serving the needs of our students and alumni while providing a top-tier high school program. Our success as a community would not be possible without the dynamic faculty and staff who work tirelessly each day for our students. I will leave at the end of this school year knowing that the school’s achievements will continue with the commitment of the faculty, staff, students, parents and Board members to our founding mission.”

Kannon Shanmugam, Chair of Thurgood Marshall Academy’s Board of Trustees, expressed the Board’s appreciation for Alexandra’s years of accomplishment at the school. “Alexandra is a rare talent who has dedicated years of her life to making Thurgood Marshall Academy the gold standard of public education. I know I speak for the entire Thurgood Marshall Academy community when I say that we will miss her very much. We are sorry to see Alexandra go, but we wish her great success in her future endeavors.”

Alexandra has been at Thurgood Marshall Academy for eight years, first as Academic Director (2006-2011), and then as Executive Director from 2011 to the present.

The Board of Trustees also announced today that the search for a new Executive Director would begin immediately. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
