Thurgood Marshall Academy and teacher Annie Scogin sponsored an event that introduced high-energy athletic training to students this fall. Trainers from District Crossfit gym taught TMA students a series of squats, lunges, crunches, and sprints that make up a total-body workout. Over healthy snacks, they also discussed strategies for living a healthy lifestyle. The event highlighted the school-wide goal of encouraging healthier lifestyles, for TMA students and the greater community alike. As Scogin said in The Washington Post, ““I’d never want my kids to think exercise and eating well is about being skinny or having big muscles. It’s about a lifestyle.”
Scogin plans to use elements of the Crossfit workout during track practice in the spring.
