College Counseling

Bulletin Board display of various college pennantsThurgood Marshall Academy has an extensive College Counseling Program to support our students’ post-secondary preparation and college application process. The College Counselor organizes events such as the College Application Nights, on-site admissions sessions, FAFSA night, college visits, and a parent night for sophomore and junior families to increase the visibility and awareness of college in every grade.

The College Counselor’s hands-on assistance with the research and application process—both during and outside of the Senior Seminar College Prep course—helped the Class of 2016 continue the tradition of 100% college acceptance to some of the nation’s most competitive universities, including Elon University, Bates College, University of Rochester, and Wake Forrest University.  You can view a full list of colleges accepting our students.

Along with the guidance and support of our college counselor, TMA students enjoy the added benefit of additional support from our partners at DC CAP and College Success Foundation.  Through our unique partnership with the Flamboyan Foundation, TMA has moved our college counseling program into a holistic approach that involves extensive family outreach and support.  Please click on this video to learn more about how our work with Flamboyan Foundation has impacted our families and the college going process.
