Senior Spotlight- Amya Hudson (By- Joshua Davis)
I was given the opportunity to interview one of our seniors, Amya Hudson. She has been a student at Thurgood Marshall Academy for 4 years. When asked, what would you tell an incoming 9th grader at TMA, she responded, “Do not procrastinate in school, and respect and build bonds with your teachers.”
As a freshman, Hudson explained that time management was her biggest obstacle because it was challenging balancing school and her social life. She shared that her most memorable moments at TMA were the fall pep-rallies, and who her favorite teachers and subjects are.
“Ms. Donnelly is my favorite teacher because I have known her since I was a middle school student and she has been a great support system to me ever since. Mr. Taylor is also my favorite teacher because he gave me guidance and advice outside of school. My favorite subject is AP Language because I enjoy reading and writing.”
When it comes to extra-curricular activities, she has participated in many TMA clubs such as, Connections (a club where people who identify as LBGTQ+ get to connect with one another), Music Club, Dance Club, and Chess Club. After all of her years being a student at TMA, Amya feels ready and prepared for college.
In the virtual learning environment, there were some pros and cons she experienced. The positive side of her virtual experience was that she felt comfortable being at home and was able to keep excellent grades. The challenge was that she was disappointed in not being able to participate in senior activities in-person. In the fall, she will be attending North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University majoring in Psychology.
Her last words to TMA Staff and Faculty are, “Thank you so much for everything you have done.”
